Learning from the Red Shoe Diaries Episode 1
A tall, statuesque woman dressed in Yves Saint Laurent from head-to-toe walks into the pumps-section of the shoe department of the local Saint Laurent Boutique.
She tells the salesman, “I’d like one of your Saint Laurent Janis Red Leather Chain Heel Pointed Pump Shoes, size 8.5, please. Don’t bother putting them in the bag because I plan on wearing them to the party I’m headed to now.”
At about the same time, a tall and beautiful bohemian woman wearing flip flops walks into the same store.
If you were the salesman, and had a quota of the Saint Laurent pumps to sell, would you spend your time trying to persuade the bohemian woman to switch to pumps? How much time would you spend trying to convince her that spending $600 on a pair of shoes is absolutely worth it when they’re fabulous?!
Would you let the bohemian woman walk on by (to find more flip flops, or perhaps realize that she had walked into the wrong store in the first place), and instead focus your attention on the first woman?
